They call Budapest the Paris of the east. I don’t know if I fully agree with that statement purely because Paris holds a special place in my heart and I don’t think any where else can be compared to it. That saying, Budapest is still a very unique place that has its own interesting and endearing qualities. As a birthday treat my friends, Dan and I headed to Eastern Europe for a weekend of fun and frolics. Although the weather wasn’t great it won’t be a weekend I will be forgetting in a hurry. I thought I would do another ‘Things to do’ style post as they seem to go down well. So here are my top things to do in Budapest.
Széchenyi thermal bath
This was my most favorite thing in Budapest. I had never been to a spa before let alone an outdoor hot thermal bath. It was immense, although it was -1 outside the baths were hot and this weird steam filled the air which made me feel like I was in some magical place. There were Hungarian men on the corners of the hot baths playing chess and kids playing in the whirl pool. It was so refreshing being in the cold but warm at the same time. We also all paid for a massage which was dirt cheap in comparison to one you would pay for in London! All in all it was the best day of our trip I had such a relaxing time!
For amazing views of Budapest you have to go see this neo-gothic terrace. The views are wonderful and is definitely a photo opportunity spot. With people walking around selling traditional Hungarian snacks and attractions such as bird holding and souvenir stalls it really is enjoyable.
There was a lot more that we could have done but if I am honest we spent a good amount of time on our trip drunkedy drunk drunk. With it being so cheap between 850-1000 Hungarian Forint it was working out at about £2 for a bottle of medium sized vodka. I know ridiculous right? Overall I had the best time I think this would have been the case even if we went some where rubbish I think its more the company you keep and my trip was made by all the special boys in my life <3
