How to spend a romantic weekend away.
This year Dan and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary, and we decided we wanted to celebrate it in style with a romantic weekend away. After hours of scrolling the internet looking for Hot Tub stays in the U.K. we finally came across something that was available on our dates. Just two hours drive from London, nearby the small town of Broadway in the Cotswold, we found The Fish Hotel and boy am I glad we did. It is not often I rave about a place but I believe this deserves acknowledgement, not only for the impeccable service we received throughout but also the small details that really made our anniversary extra special. So here it is, a blog post with all the deets and 4 reasons why you should add The Fish Hotel to your travel bucket list.
1. You get to stay in a romantic Shepherds Hut
I mean, I think the photo speaks for itself, hello adorable bright white interiors. The photos make it seem so tiny but actually there is a lot of room, and ample storage making this the perfect place to enjoy a weekend stay together. Plus not only is it dreamy to look at, but it is also equipped with everything you need for the perfect romantic weekend away with Bae.

2. You have your own private hot tub
Nothing says romantic weekend like a glass of bubbly in a bubbling hot tub. The Hilly Huts each include their own private tub and ours also had a cracking view of the Cotswold Valley. Not only did we have a lovely view but the staff also went over and above to acknowledge our anniversary. Left on our bed when we checked in was Temple Spa gift, a complimentary mini bottle of Prosecco and two bottles of local craft beer to enjoy. Not only that but they had the Hot Tub already warmed up for us, excellent service or what!
3. You can RELAX AND ENJOY THE COUNTRYSIDE
Fresh air, green rolling hills, fields of wheat (minus Theresa May) and cute dogs! What more could you want?! On the day we arrived we took a lovely walk around the Cotswold, and it was just so relaxing and peaceful. The hotel is really dog friendly so we saw lots of pups on our stay, we even made quite good pals with Cassie the cutie in the photo above. If you forget your walking boots or wellies, fear not, the hotel provides some hunters at the front of the lobby for your to borrow so you can still enjoy a walk even on a rainy day. Or if walking isn't your thing and you just want to enjoy some peace and quiet with a good book and pretty views, then make yourself comfy around the fire in one of the two lounge areas in the hotel. Dan and I enjoyed snuggling up next, reading and playing scrabble, it was the perfect way to wind down and relax.
4. You can eat all the delicious food
Is a weekend away really a weekend away unless you eat yourself into a food coma? Well thankfully for us we had an abundance of delicious food to achieve that! The first meal we tried at the hotel was the Sunday Roast from the hotel restaurant. We opted for a starter and the main of Lamb and Roast Pork but I'll be honest we were hugely underwhelmed with the soggy prawn cocktail we were served. It was a busy day, so maybe it was a one off, but to be honest it was completely forgotten when we tasted the Roast. Crispy potatoes, steamed cabbage, roast carrots and big jug of decadent gravy what more can you want! The complimentary glass of bubbles brought to us at the start of our lunch was also a lovely extra.
Breakfast was perfect on both days during our stay, served from 7am until 10am the restaurant offers a continental buffet with lots of locally sourced produce, as well as also offering a hot Full English that you can order to preference. When staying in the Hilly Hut's we chose to have breakfast to our room which came hand delivered in the most perfect little basket. Inside was freshly cooked bread, honey roast ham, cheeses, croissants, jams, smoked salmon, home cooked banana bread and a jar bottle of freshly squeezed orange juice. It was UNBELIEVABLE, and one of the nicest breakfast experiences we have ever had.
As part of our Hilly Hut package an afternoon tea for two was also included and as you can see from above it was delightful and a lovely thing to do to break up the day. If you fancy exploring and trying food outside of the hotel, we also enjoyed a visit to The Broadway Deli, a fine foods specialist which has everything a foodie could dream of. We treated ourselves to some local savory jam and then wandered around the village into the land of Dan's dreams; the traditional sweet shop!
Final thoughts
If you are looking for somewhere special to stay for a weekend then I would 100% recommend staying in the Hilly Hut's at The Fish Hotel, not only are the staff amazingly helpful but they also went above and beyond to make our anniversary special. The grounds are spotless and beautiful, the decor is modern countryside perfection and the Shepherds Huts are incredibly well made to a luxury standard. All in all it was perfect and I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
